Profession of Faith
We belong to the Creator in whose image we are all made.
In God we are breathing, in God we are living, in God we share the life of all creation.
We belong to Jesus Christ, the true icon of God and of humanity.
In him God is breathing, in him God is living, through him we are reconciled.
We belong to the Holy Spirit, who gives us new life and strengthens our faith.
In the Spirit love is breathing, in the Spirit truth is living, the breath of God always moves us.
We belong to the Holy Trinity, who is one in all and Three-in-One.
In God we are all made, in Christ we are all saved, in the Spirit we are all united.
Together, we belong to the Earth, our common home.
The Earth that is the Lord’s, and all that is in it.

Together, we belong to the Earth, our common home.
The Earth that is the Lord’s, and all that is in it.
Our History
From the Beginning |
Who we are |
Built in 1966, but conceived much earlier, Creator was the last mission church of an ambitious Diocesan Mission Plan. Creator was envisioned as an Ark; a safe and holy place in a world of turbulence and change; a literal “if you build it they will come” project. Borrowing The Rev. Morton Townsend† from Emmanuel Old Church to perform services and provide pastoral care, Creator remained a vibrant mission presence on the main thoroughfare in Mechanicsville throughout the decades. In the past fifty plus years, Creator has had five Vicars and two Priests, achieving full Church status in 1998.
With the parish’s unusual roots, there came an opportunity for new vision and focus, independent of years of accumulated tradition. Those who first formed the core of the parish embraced love as their guiding principle and the parish has always been well known as a welcoming and embracing home. Today, amidst the rapidly changing and tumultuous currents of modern life (not unlike ages past!) we consciously rest in the arms of God. In the face of electronic distraction, global distress, economic uncertainty, and the crushing weight of time and value dilution, we remain committed to love. The love of Christ is at the center of all things and we pray we can share some of His love with you. At Creator, we hope and prayer to bring as many people as possible to know, love, and serve God as revealed through the Holy Spirit in Jesus Christ. To be transformed into spiritually renewed disciples of Jesus is the ground on which we stand and water in which we swim. |

We at the Episcopal Church of the Creator understand ourselves to be “ambassadors for Christ,” spreading the good news of the biblical witness through the love of our worship community out into the world. We understand the unique reality of the incarnation as the witness of God’s love for us and a sign of God’s intention for us to witness to all in the name of Jesus Christ.
We believe it is our calling to grow in a deeper relationship with Christ through the Holy Spirit. To that end, we are committed to prayer and study as basic components of our Christian vocation. Most importantly, we are a caring and loving family, oriented and centered in Christ. By praying and celebrating together as a parish, as a family and as individuals, we grow in God’s love and grace. Through God’s gifts, we share His love with our community and the world. Our Priest, Fr. Bill Burk†, is a gifted preacher and teacher who seeks to praise God and inspire people with the words of Holy Scripture. Father Burk’s sermons are biblically-based lessons aimed at equipping hearers to live godly lives in today’s tumultuous and changing world. Please join us on Sunday morning to lift our prayers and praise to God and to grow in the company of others who seek the Way. |
