Martha Purvis joined the staff at The Episcopal Church of the Creator in November of 2019. She moved from South Boston, Virginia to study music at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her focus in school was trombone performance, but her path at VCU led her to pursue the organ as well.
In addition to her work here as the Music Director, Martha frequently performs with area jazz orchestras, wind ensembles, and Capital Brass Quintet, of which she is a founding member. During the week, she teaches preschool music and fitness all around the Richmond metro area.
Martha attends Richmond Friends Meeting, where she serves on committees regarding outreach and visibility. She volunteers with the Richmond Peace Education Center and is part of their Development Committee. When she goes home for the day, Martha enjoys running by the river, reading, and making sure that her cat and dog have a good day, too.
